The New Zealand Department of Conservation has announced a plan to replace all of New Zealand holiday lights with Christmas decorations as part of its New Zealand Christmas celebrations.
The lights are due to be replaced in mid-December, according to a department spokesperson, who said the department was “considering a number of options”.
Auckland City Council has also announced that Christmas lights will soon be replaced with festive decorations.
The department said it was still “evaluating a number” of options for Christmas lights, with a Christmas party planned for December 21, 2020.
“The Department is committed to supporting the communities of New England with festive activities, and will continue to do so,” the spokesperson said.
“We also believe the New Zealand winter holiday season is one of the best in the world, and so the Department will be working closely with the local communities to provide them with a variety of holiday options.”
